Mercy has dual registration as an Adult Nurse and as a Health Visitor specialising in the care of children. OUR STRENGTHS
GREAT LEADERSHIP
Our Service Manager has had a long career in the business of caring:
Mercy worked as a care assistant in adult care settings-nursing, residential and hospital.
She trained as an Adult Nurse , where she gained Staff Nurse hospital experience in part but mainly community experience as part of a Community Intermediate Care team providing nursing care in homes of recently hospital-discharged patients with complex needs,
She trained as a Health Visitor ( post-graduate degree in Specialist Public Health Nurse Practitioner)-over 10 years of extensive health and social care experience with children and families including those in Local Authority care,
She has wide day-to-day experience of collaboration with
General Practitioner teams,
Local Authority Social Workers,
CAMHS (Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services),
Hospital and Local Authority Safeguarding teams,
School and Nursery teams, Housing Officers,
Dieticians,
SALT (Speech and Language Therapists)
and CDC (Child Development Centre).
She has sat in Child Protection meetings regularly (at times 3 in a week) in the past 10 years and has profound knowledge of trauma that some care leavers have experienced in their childhood.
Mercy also worked with a friend as a Support Worker for then known as 16-plus semi-independent living.
LOCATION
Our current property in Garforth is a well-maintained, spacious wheel-chair friendly home with six ground floor double-bedrooms, three being en suite. One of the bedrooms is a self-contained annex reserved for a young person ready to be independent.
Two of the bedrooms have French doors that open into the garden. These two rooms are near enough annexes as one can lock the door to the hallway and use the French doors exclusively like a solo.
There is a total of 6 exits out of the property in case of a fire. There is a big common kitchen with all modern appliances.
The registered property has a perimeter fence to separate it from a one-and-a-half-acre garden with goats, sheep and fowl which provides for a farm feel, yet the home is on a lane with neighbours. For health and safety reasons young people are not allowed in this area.
Much as the property presents a farm-like isolated feel, it is situated on a lane with other homes giving it a communal existence. The main street of Garforth and the train station are within walking distance. Leeds city centre is 11 minutes away on the train.
The Garforth Academy is a walking distance down the main street, convenient for any young person choosing to enrol there.
According to crimerate.co.uk Garforth is amongst the safest top 5 small towns in West Yorkshire.
